week 4 - [Animal Tales] essay

Last year, Typhoon Morkaot landed in the midnight of August 8, almost southern region of Taiwan was flooded by record-breaking heavy rain. It was the most horrible disaster resulted from Typhoon. Electricity supplies were cut, thousands of people were trapped. The village was buried by a massive mudslide that destroyed most of the town. The record-breaking rains also caused catastrophic agricultural losses.

What’s worse, the government response so slowly that they missed the most important time to rescue people from bad situation. Although the leader hold a press conference to apologize for his negligence, the victims of the flood were still very upset. However, residents all over Taiwan donated their money or time to the victims of the flood.

As a student, I don’t have much money. I decided to ask for leave from my cram school to help the victims in Pingtung. I was shocked by the wretched condition. The road was too muddy to drive cars. Many houses were flooded and filled with the mud. Not until we came in the disaster area did I realize the difficulties they occurred.

We helped residents to clean the sludge. There were approximately twenty people. We could only cleaned a small part of mud even we spent an afternoon. However, locals were very appreciating for our support. I was so glad to see the sincere smile on their face. Just like the story told  ”If you’re giving them happiness, then you’re giving them the most special thing of all .”
